Zintiril belongs to the class of H1-antihistamines.
Its active ingredient, cetirizine, is an active metabolite of hydroxyzine and selectively blocks H1-histamine receptors, thereby reducing itching and swelling associated with allergic reactions.
Cetirizine acts on both the early (histamine-dependent) and late phases of the allergic response: it reduces eosinophil migration, decreases the release of inflammatory mediators, and inhibits the action of histamine-releasing agents.
The product helps relieve itching, reduces nasal secretions, and prevents bronchospasm.
Zintiril is used in cats and dogs for the symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions, including:
- Atopic dermatitis
- Flea allergy dermatitis
- Food allergy
- Allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Insect bite reactions
- Seasonal allergic reactions
- Contact dermatitis
- Idiopathic pruritus (pruritus of unknown etiology)
Zintiril is administered orally to cats and dogs individually or with a small amount of food.
The recommended single dose is 1-2 mg per kg of the animal’s body weight, given once daily.
If necessary (e.g., in cases of atopic dermatitis), both the dose and frequency may be doubled. When increasing the frequency, the interval between administrations should be 12 hours.

To make an administration easier, it is possible to pre-dissolve the tablet in a small amount of water and administer it using a syringe dispenser or a standard syringe for injection without a needle perorally.
Contraindications and special instructions:
Concomitant use of Zintiril with M-cholinolytics (antimuscarinic agents) is not recommended due to the risk of enhanced anticholinergic effects, such as dryness of mucous membranes, tachycardia, urinary retention, and gastrointestinal motility disturbances.
