Pharmacological properties

Tilmicosin phosphate is an antibiotic belonging to the macrolide group, that is efficient against most gram-positive and some gram-negative microbes including:

  • Staphylococcus spp.
  • Streptococcus spp.
  • Pasteurella spp.
  • Clostridium spp.
  • Arcanobacterium spp.
  • Brachyspira hyodysenteriae
  • Chlamydia spp.
  • Spirochaeta spp.
  • Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae
  • Mannheimia haemolytica
  • Mycoplasma spp.

Indications
Pnevmotil is prescribed to pigs to treat respiratory diseases caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, and Pasteurella multocida; to poultry suffering from infections caused by Mycoplasma gallicepticum, Mycoplasma sinoviae, Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale, and Pasteurella multocida; to calves suffering from respiratory diseases caused by Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemoli, Arcanobacterium pyogenes, Mycoplasma bovis, and Mycoplasma dyspar.
It is also prescribed in the case of mixed infections, secondary infections after viral diseases, and other animal diseases caused by tilmicosin-sensitive pathogens.

In chickens and pigs, the therapeutic Pnevmotil solution should be the only source of drinking water during the treatment period. The solution is to be prepared daily (its shelf life is up to 24 hours).

Restrictions
Contraindications and special instructions:
Avoid using the drug simultaneously with aminoglycoside antibiotics, as side effects and complications (e. g. diarrhea, anorexia, paresis, or nephrotoxic effects) are possible to occur in animals.
In order to prevent adsorption and reduce antibacterial activity, avoid using the drug simultaneously with bentonite-containing drugs and feed additives.
Avoid using Pnevmotil in adult ruminants with advanced cicatricial digestion, animals suffering from severe impaired liver and (or) kidney function. Avoid using Pnevmotil in laying hens and replacement chickens older than 16 weeks as tilmicosin accumulates in eggs.

Withdrawal period:
meat - 16 days (pigs, poultry)
meat - 35 days (cattle)
