Pharmacological properties

Ceftiofur is the third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is very effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria including β-lactamase producing strains and some anaerobic bacteria:

Indications
Ceftonit is prescribed to cattle to treat bacterial diseases of the respiratory tract caused by Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, and Haemophilus somnus, necrobacillosis caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum and Porphiromonas assacharolytica (Bacteroides melaninogenicus); and acute endometritis. In pigs, it is used to treat infectious respiratory diseases caused by Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, and Streptococcus suis.

Restrictions

Contraindications and special instructions:

Hypersensitivity of an animal to ceftiofur or other β-lactam antibiotics. Avoid using Ceftonit simultaneously with tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, aminoglycosides, furosemide, and ethacrylic acid.

Withdrawal period:
meat - 5 days (pigs)
meat - 8 days (cattle)
milk - 0 days
