Pharmacological properties

Doxycycline is a semisynthetic antibiotic that belongs to the 3rd generation of the tetracycline group. Doxycycline inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting enzymes causing disruption of microbial cell protein synthesis. The drug is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative microbes including:

  • Escherichia coli
  • Haemophilus spp.
  • Pasteurella spp.
  • Salmonella spp.
  • Staphylococcus spp.
  • Streptococcus spp.
  • Leptospira spp.
  • Chlamydia spp.
  • Clostridium perfringens
  • Listeria monocytogenes
  • Corynebacterium pyogenes
  • Rickettsia spp.
  • Mycoplasma spp.

Indications
Doxylox is prescribed to cattle, small ruminants, pigs to treat infections caused by doxycycline-sensitive microorganisms, including colibacillosis, salmonellosis, pasteurellosis, swine enzootic pneumonia, chlamydia- and staphylococcus-induced diseases, Glasser's disease, and other diseases of bacterial and mycoplasmal etiology.

Cattle, small ruminants

Intramuscularly

1 ml / 10 kg of animal body weight

Once

If necessary, repeat injection in 48 hours

Pigs

1 ml / 20 kg of animal body weight

If the required volume of the drug exceeds 2.5 ml for lambs and piglets, 5 ml for adult pigs, sheep and calves, and 10 ml for cattle, several injections in various injection sites shall be made in order to avoid a possible pain reaction.

Restrictions
Contraindications and special instructions:
Avoid using the drug simultaneously with penicillin antibiotics and cephalosporins, as well as with calcium drugs due to a possible decrease in its activity.
Avoid using the drug during pregnancy and lactation.
