Gatilon TAB

Gatilon TAB belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibacterial agents.

The active ingredient, gatifloxacin, exerts a bactericidal effect against:

• Aerobic Gram-positive microorganisms, including:
• Arcanobacterium spp., Bacillus spp., Corynebacterium spp., Enterococcus spp., Listeria spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis (methicillin-sensitive strains), Streptococcus spp., Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus suis
• Aerobic Gram-negative microorganisms, including:
• Acinetobacter spp., Actinobacillus spp., Aeromonas spp., Bordetella spp., Campylobacter spp., Enterobacter spp., Escherichia coli, Haemophilus spp. (including β-lactamase-producing strains), Klebsiella spp., Leptospira spp., Moraxella spp., Morganella spp., Morganella morganii, Pasteurella spp., Proteus spp., Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Providencia spp., Pseudomonas spp., Salmonella spp., Serratia spp.;
• Anaerobic microorganisms, including:
• Bacteroides spp., Bacteroides fragilis, Clostridium spp., Clostridium perfringens, Fusobacterium spp., Peptostreptococcus spp.
• Other microorganisms, including:
• Chlamydia spp., Chlamydia pneumoniae, Chlamydia psittaci, Mycobacterium spp., Mycoplasma spp., Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Rickettsia spp.

Gatifloxacin acts bactericidally by interfering with bacterial DNA replication.

Gatilon TAB is prescribed for the treatment of cats and dogs with:

• bacterial respiratory tract infections
• gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract infections
• skin and soft tissue infections caused by pathogens susceptible to gatifloxacin, including mycoplasmal infections.

Gatilon TAB is administered orally to cats and dogs individually or with a small amount of feed.

The recommended dosage ranges from 2 mg to 10 mg per kg of the animal’s body weight, given once daily (higher doses are used for chronic or mixed infections, including mycoplasmal infections).

For dogs weighing over 40 kg, the dosage regimen is as follows:

• ¼ tablet of Gatilon TAB 80 mg (20 mg) per every 10 kg of body weight, or

• ¼ tablet of Gatilon TAB 40 mg (10 mg) per every 5 kg of body weight.

For more precise dosing according to the animal’s weight, the tablet may be divided along the score lines.

The standard treatment course with Gatilon TAB lasts 5-8 days. In cases of chronic or difficult-to-treat infections, the course may be extended to 10-14 days.

If necessary, the dose, frequency, and duration of treatment may be adjusted by the attending veterinarian based on the severity of the condition and the animal’s clinical status.

Contraindications and special instructions:

Gatilon Tab must not be administered concomitantly with preparations containing zinc, magnesium, aluminum, or iron. A minimum interval of four hours is recommended between the administration of gatifloxacin and these medications.

Concurrent use of this medicinal product with glucocorticoids is contraindicated due to an increased risk of tendinitis and/or tendon rupture; with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) due to an elevated risk of central nervous system adverse effects; and with erythromycin due to an increased risk of cardiac arrhythmias.

When used concomitantly with vitamin K antagonists, the risk of bleeding increases. Therefore, coagulation parameters must be carefully monitored.
