Nitox 200 is referred to the group of antibacterial drugs. Oxytetracycline dihydrate, an active substance of Nitox 200, has a bacteriostatic activity against most of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including streptococci, staphylococci, corynebacteria, clostridia, erysipelothrixes, pasterellae, fusobacteria, salmonellae, pseudomonadae, actinobacteria, escherichia, chlamidiae, rickettsiae, and spirochaete.

Mechanism of action of oxytetracycline is based on the inhibition of microbial protein synthesis. The prolonged activity of the drug is attributed to the magnesium complex of oxytetracycline dehydrate. After intramuscular injection, oxytetracycline dehydrate is quickly absorbed from the injection site and reaches its peak concentration in organs and tissues within 30-50 minutes. The therapeutic level of the antibiotic in blood serum is preserved for 72 hours. Oxytetracycline dehydrate is mainly excreted with bile and urine; in lactating animals, it can also be partially eliminated with milk.
