Cost-effective treatment course.
A fast and reliable solution against blood parasites.
Neozidin is an orange yellow powder, highly soluble in water.
Packing: 2.36 g hermetically sealed bottles.
450 mg diminazene
550 mg phenazone
Neozidin has a broad spectrum of antiprotozoan activity; it is effective against causative parasitic agents of the following diseases in animals: babesiosis, pyroplasmosis, fransaiellesis, trypanosomiasis, theleriasis, and nuttaliosis.
Mode of action: diminazene inhibits aerobic glycolysis and DNA synthesis in blood parasites, that leads to destruction of their cellular structure and subsequent death. Phenazone is an anti-inflammatory and antipyretic agent, which also decreases vascular permeability. Diminazene is quickly absorbed from the injection site and distributed among the organs and tissues of an animal with the maximum concentration observed in 3 to 5 hours after an injection; the concentration remains at this level for 24 hours. The drug mostly accumulates in the liver and kidneys; it is eliminated with urine; in lactating animals, it can also partially be eliminated with milk.
Neozidin is prescribed for cattle, sheep, horses, and dogs to treat or prevent the following blood protozoan diseases: babesiosis (pyroplasmosis), fransaiellosis, nuttalliosis, theileriasis, and trypanosomiasis.
To prepare a sterile 7% solution for injection, 12.5 mL of water for injection or saline is introduced into a vial with 2.36 g of Neozidin powder, thus obtaining 14.5 mL of a ready-touse solution.
The prepared solution of Neozidin shall be stored in a hermetically sealed original vial in a dark place, at room temperature, for no more than 24 hours; or 48 hours, if stored in refrigerator. Avoid boiling or heating the solution to the temperature exceeding 37 °C.
To treat babesiosis (pyroplasmosis), fransaiellosis, or nuttalliosis, administer the Neozidin solution to animals intramuscularly at a single dose of 1 mLper 20 kg of animal body weight. To treat theileriasis, administer the Neozidin solution at a dose of 1.5 mL per 20 kg of animal body weight (i. e. 5 mg of diminazene per 1 kg); to treat trypanosomiasis caused by T. brucei (Nagana) - at a dose of 2.2 mL per 20 kg of animal body weight (i. e. 8 mg of diminazene per 1 kg).
If after first application of drug, the temperature of treated animal has not dropped and its general condition has not improved, the same dose of drug can be repeated once more after 24 hours. The treated animals should be left motionless and, additionally, depending on their physiological state, symptomatic medications (i. e. cardiac, laxatives, vitamins, trace elements) should be prescribed. In dogs, before administering Neozidin, parenteral administration of antihistamines is recommended.
As a preventative measure, Neozidin is administered once at a dose of 3.5 mg of diminazene per 1 kg of animal body weight, if animals with clinical symptoms of pyroplasmosis have been found in the herd, or if the herd has been transferred to an area endemic for blood protozoan diseases. If necessary, administration can be repeated after 10 to 15 days. Before mass treatment with Neozidin, each drug batch is first tested in a small group of animals (5 to 10 animals). If no complications are revealed within 3 days, the whole livestock may be treated with the drug. When used at the recommended doses, side effects and complications attributed to Neozidin are generally not observed. In some animals, the administration of the drug may be associated with a swelling at the injection site, that is quickly dissolved.
If the required volume of drug exceeds 10 mL in large animals and 2.5 mL in small animals, injections should be made in several injection sites to avoid any painful reaction.
