  • Pharmacological properties

Neozidin M has a broad spectrum of antiprotozoan activity; it is effective against causative parasite agents of the following diseases in cattle, sheep, horses, and dogs: babesiosis (pyroplasmosis), fransaiellesis, trypanosomiasis, theleriasis, and nuttaliosis. Mode of action: diminazene diaceturate inhibits aerobic glycolysis and DNA synthesis in blood parasites, thus destructing their cellular structure and causing their subsequent death.

Phenazone (pyrazolone derivative) exerts an analgesic, febrifuge, and mild antiinflammatory action. Phenazone mode of action is based on prostaglandin synthesis inhibition. After parenteral administration of the drug, concentration of diminazene diaceturate in blood reaches its therapeutic level in 3 to 5 hours and remains at this level for 24 hours. The drug mostly accumulates in the liver and kidneys; it is eliminated with urine; in lactating animals, it can also partially be eliminated with milk.

The treated animals should be left motionless and additionally, depending on their physiological state, symptomatic medication (cardiac or laxative one at intestinal atony) should be prescribed.

In case of administration of the veterinary drug at a dose exceeding 10 mL, injections should be done into several injection sites.

For prevention, when any clinical sign of a disease is revealed in a herd or after transferring animals to an area, where a blood parasitic disease is endemic, Neozidin М is administered in a single therapeutic dose. If necessary, manipulation may be repeated in a 10- to 15-day interval.

Before mass treatment with Neozidin M, the drug is first tested in a small group of animals (5 to 10 animals). In the case where no complications were revealed, the whole livestock can be treated with the drug.
