  • Pharmacological properties

Maduramicin has a broad-spectrum anticoccidial action and is active against all types of coccidia (Eimeria), parasitic in birds including Eimeria necatrix, Eimeria tenella, Eimeria brunetti, Eimeria maxima, Eimeria mivati, Eimeria acervulina, Eimeria рrаесох, and Eimeria mitis at the stages of sporogony, trophozoite, and early stages of schizogony.

Mode of action: maduramicin selectively enhances the transport of monovalent cations (sodium and potassium ions) through the cell membrane, thus causing an increase in the flow of water into the cell, disruption of cell turgor, swelling of the cytoplasm, and subsequent death of coccidia due to rupture of the cell membrane.

After oral administration, maduramicin is poorly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and exerts its anticoccidial action in the mucous membrane and submucosal layer of the intestine. It is excreted from a body of a bird mainly unchanged with excrements within 2 to 3 days

  • Indications
  • Indications

Madeford is prescribed for broilers and replacement chickens to prevent coccidiosis.

  • Dosage and route of administration
  • Dosage and route of administration

In poultry, Madeford is used mixed with feed at a dose of 500 g per 1 ton of feed (on API basis — 5 mg of maduramicin per 1 kg of feed):

    • in broiler chickens — introduced on the first day of life for the entire period of rearing and excluded from the diet only 5 days before slaughter

    • in replacement chickens — introduced on the first day of life and excluded from the diet at least 14 days before the egg-laying period starts.

To ensure uniform distribution of the drug throughout the feed mix, the calculated dose of Madeford is mixed with a little amount of combined feed and then added to the rest of the combined feed (a daily portion). Added to the combined feed, the drug is stable within 3 months.

  • Restrictions
