Enrofloxacin, colistin

A complex enrofloxacin- and colistin-based drug highly effective against colibacillosis in pigs and poultry.

More efficient than enrofloxacin-based monodrugs with comparable cost of treatment

Increased activity due to a synergetic effect of its active components.

  • Pharmacological properties
  • Pharmacological properties

The synergistic combination of enrofloxacin and colistin sulfate provides a broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microbes.

Mode of action: enrofloxacin (a fluroquinolone derivate) inhibits the activity of gyrase (an enzyme affecting the replication of DNA spiral in nucleus of bacterial cell), thus disrupting protein synthesis and impeding growth and development of Gram-positive and Gramnegative bacteria including Escherichia coli, Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Clostridium perfringens, Bordetella spp., Campylobacter spp., Corynebacterium pyogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as Mycoplasma spp. Colistin sulfate (a polypeptide antibiotic) disrupts permeability of bacterial cell walls by connecting to lypoproteins, that leads to change of intrinsic cellular metabolism and causes death of Gram-negative bacteria including Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella spp, Salmonella spp., and Proteus spp.

Administered orally, enrofloxacin is quickly and fully absorbed to gastrointestinal system and distributed along the organs and tissues of animal; enrofloxacin leave the body mostly unchanged and partially as metabolites with feces and urine. Colistin sulfate is poorly absorbed to gastrointestinal system and is not accumulated in organs and tissues of an animal. It is excreted from the body mostly unchanged with feces.

  • Indications
  • Indications

Enronit OR is prescribed for animals and poultry to prevent and treat (during the periods of increased risk of contamination) colibacillosis, salmonellosis, chronic respiratory diseases, streptococcosis, necrotic enteritidis, Glasser's disease, mycoplasmosis, mixed infections and secondary infections (in virus diseases); and in piglets - colibacillosis and bacterial enteritis caused by enrofloxacin- and colistin-sensitive microbes.

  • Dosage and route of administration
  • Dosage and route of administration

For piglets, Enronit OR is added to the water container (diluted in a 1:1 ratio) at the following dose: 0.3 mL per 1 kg of animal body weight, once a day, for 2 to 3 days. In case of severe disease, the daily dose shall be increased to 0.5 mLper 1 kg of animal body weight.

For broiler stock, breeding stock, and rearing stock of chickens, hens, and turkeys, Enronit OR is added to the water container at the following daily dose: 0,5 mL per 1 L of potable water for 3 to 5 days; in case of salmonellosis, mixed infections, and chronic forms of diseases, Enronit OR is administered for at least 5 days. During the treatment period, poultry must only drink water that contains Enronit OR.

    CONTRAINDICATIONS

Avoid using Enronit OR in laying hens, as enrofloxacin is excreted with eggs. Avoid using Enronit OR concurrently with laevomycetin, macrolide, and tetracycline groups of antibiotics, theophylline, non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs, aminoglycosides, neuromuscular relaxants, anesthetic drugs, magnesium- and calcium-containing drugs, as well as in animals suffering from severe liver and kidney diseases.

  • Restrictions
  • Restrictions

Treated piglets can be slaughtered for human consumption no earlier than 14 days, poultry - no earlier than 11 days after the last application of Enronit OR. In the case of forced slaughter of animals before the established deadlines, the meat can be used for feeding fur-bearing animals.

    SHELF LIFE
