A water-soluble complex of vitamin E and selenium in the form of solution for injections used for treatment and prevention of diseases caused by vitamin E and selenium deficiency in animals.
E-selen is a clear colourless to light yellow liquid, opalescent at diffuse light.
Packing: 50 and 100 mL glass bottles sealed with rubber stoppers and flip-off caps.
0,5 mg selenium (in form of sodium selenite)
50 mg vitamin E
E-Selen compensates for vitamin E and selenium deficiency in the animal body. Vitamin E regulates redox processes and influences carbohydrate-lipid metabolism, enhances effects of vitamins A and D3, improves the function of the immune system and general resistance. Biological role of selenium is connected with its antioxidant characteristics. It promotes excretion of toxicological agents out of body and improves immunity in animals. Injection of the veterinary drug into organism causes quick increase of vitamin E and selenium level in the animal body, metabolic processes recovery.
E-Selen is prescribed for cattle, small ruminants, horses, pigs to prevent and treat diseases developed against the background of vitamin E and selenium deficiency in:
The veterinary drug is administered to animals intramuscularly or subcutaneously (to horses only intramuscularly) for prevention - once with a 2- to 4-month interval; for treatment—once, 2 to 3 times, with a 7- to 10-day interval, in the following doses:
Curative dose may be increased by 1.5, and in regions with selenium deficiency - increased fivefold.
A dose per one animal should not exceed: for horses - 20 mL; cows - 15 mL; and sheep, goats - 5 mL, for pigs - 5 mL.
E-Selen treatment regimen to prevent white-muscle disease 1 in selenium-geodeficient zones1
Animals | Dose, mL per 10 kg of body weight | Interval, days | Number of injections |
Calves and lambs, 3 months and younger | 0.5 | 14 | 6 |
Young animals, 3 months old and older | 0.2 | 30 | Once a month |
Calves and lambs in groups with ill animals | 1.0 | 7 | 3 |
Cows, 60 days left before calving | 15 mL per animal | 10-14 | 3-4 |
Ewes, 30 before lambing | 0.5 | 10 | 2 |
1 - E-Selen applied according to this regimen is permissible only in farms where selenium deficiency in the animal body is confirmed by clinical and biochemical studies.
Small ruminants and pigs can be slaughtered for human consumption no earlier than 14 days (and cattle - no earlier than 30 days) after the last administration of E-selen. In the case of forced slaughter of animals before the established deadlines, the meat can be used for feeding carnivores.
