Doxycycline is a semisynthetic tetracycline antibiotic with a broad-spectrum antibiotic activity against many microorganisms, including as follows:
Gram-positive: aerobic cocci - Staphylococcus spp. (including those producing penicillinase), Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae), aerobic sporeforming bacteria - Bacillus anthracis, aerobic nonspore-forming bacteria - Listeria monocytogenes, and anaerobic spore-forming bacteria - Clostridium spp.
Gram-negative: aerobic cocci—Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, aerobic bacteria—Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Enterobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Bordetella spp., Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella multocida, as well as Rickettsia spp., Treponema spp., Mycoplasma spp., and Chlamydia spp.
Mode of action: doxycycline inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting enzymes that act as catalysts for binding aminoacetyl-RNA to ribosomal acceptors, thus causing blocking of interactions between aminoacyl-tRNA with mRNA and disruption of microbial cell protein synthesis. Doxycycline is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract in pigs, and quickly distributed throughout most organs and tissues within the body. An effective concentration in the blood is achieved after 2 to 4 hours and retained for 18 to 24 hours. Doxycycline is excreted mainly with feces and urine in an unchanged form.
Doxylox WS is prescribed for pigs and poultry to treat bacterial respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases including pasteurellosis, colibacillosis, salmonellosis, enzootic pneumonia, mycoplasmosis, and other diseases caused by doxycycline-sensitive agents.
Hypersensitivity of an animal to tetracyclines. Avoid using the drug in animals suffering from severe renal and hepatic insufficiency as well as in laying hens and replacement chicks older than 16 weeks of age, as doxycycline accumulates in eggs. Avoid using the drug in lactating and pregnant sows.
3 years from the date of manufacture; after first opening - 3 months.
