Broad-spectrum antimicrobial action.
A complex antimicrobial drug to treat respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary bacterial infections in young farm animals
Ditrim powder is a white to gray white granular powder.
Packing: 500 g aluminium foil bags.
100 mg sulfadimidine
20 mg trimethoprim
Sulfadimidine and trimethoprim enhance each other’s activity through successive cellicolous impact on the metabolism of n-aminobenzoic and folic acids, thus ensuring a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microbes including E.coli, Clostridium spp., Salmonella spp., Proteus spp., Bacillus anthracis, Pasteurella spp., Haemophilus spp., Vibrio spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Shigella spp., Corynebacterium spp., Klebsiella spp., Fusobacterium spp., Bordetella spp., and Brucella spp. Administered orally, active substances of the drug are fully and quickly absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract, distributed across all organs and tissues, and reach their peak concentrations in 2 to 3 hours. After that, the drug is maintained at therapeutic concentrations for 24 hours. The drug is excreted mainly with urine and feces.
Ditrim powder is prescribed for calves, lambs to treat bacterial infections in the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary systems caused by drug-sensitive pathogens.
Ditrim powder shall be either mixed with animal feed or suspended in a small amount of water, milk, or its substitute and then given to animals individually once per day at the following doses:
in the first day of treatment - 5 g per 10 kg of animal body weight
in the following days - 2.5 g per 10 kg of animal body weight.
The course of treatment is 3 to 5 days; in severe cases, the treatment can be extended up to 7 days.
No complications or adverse events are generally observed during the use of Ditrim powder. In the case when an animal is hypersensitive to active components of the drug and adverse events (i. e. refusal from feed, vomiting) occurs, the treatment shall be discontinued.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Due to antagonistic interaction, avoid using Ditrim concurrently with the drugs containing folic acid, novocaine, anestezin, and other derivatives of para-aminobenzoic acid. Avoid using the drug in animals with impaired function of the blood forming organs, liver, and kidneys.
RESTRICTIONS
Treated animals can be slaughtered for human consumption no earlier than 7 days after the last application of Ditrim powder. In the case of forced slaughter of animals before the established deadlines, the meat can be used for feeding fur-bearing animals.
