Ceftiofur (the third generation cephalosporin antibiotic) is very effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including β-lactamase producing strains and some anaerobic bacteria: Escherichia coli, Pasteurella (Mannheimia) haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus somnus, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Haemophilus parasuis, Salmonella cholerasuis, Streptococcus Suis, Streptococcus zooepidemicus, Streptococcus equi, Pasteurella spp, Staphilococcus spp., Actynomyces pyogenes, Salmonells typhimurium, Streptococcus agalactiae, S. dysgalactiae, S. bovis, Klebsiela, Citrobacter, Enterobacter, Bacillus spp., Proteus spp., Fusobacterium necrophorum, and Porphiromonas assacharolytica (Bacteroides melaninogenicus). Administered parenterally, ceftiofur is rapidly metabolized to desfuroylceftiofur, reaches therapeutic concentration in the body, and maintains it for 20 hours. The maximum concentration of the antibiotic in the animal body is achieved in 0.5 to 2 hours after Ceftonit was administered. Desfuroilceftiofur is excreted from the body mainly through the kidneys.

  • Indications
  • Indications

Ceftonit is prescribed to treat bacterial diseases of the respiratory tract caused by Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, and Haemophilus somnus, and necrobacillosis caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum and Porphiromonas assacharolytica (Bacteroides melaninogenicus). In cows, it is prescribed to treat acute endometritis. In pigs, it can be used to treat infectious respiratory diseases caused by Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, and Streptococcus suis.

FLUNEX—CEFTONIT COMBINATION INCREASES EFFICACY OF TREATING MASTITIS

Due to Flunex - Ceftonit combination administered to cows suffering from mastitis at a reduced dose (1 mL/45 kg of animal body weight), the recovery period in the case of purulent2 catarrhal mastitis can be reduced by 12 hours, compared to a ceftonit monotherapy2.

2 - The studies were conducted in a farm (Marksovsky district, Saratov region). The experiment included black-and-white cows taken from a dairy herd; the average weight was 450 to 550 kg and the age - 2 to 5 years; clinical or subclinical mastitis was diagnosed in all animals. Following the principle of analogues, while taking into account the diagnosis, 4 groups (10 animals each) were formed.

3 - The number of somatic cells per 1 cm3 does not exceed 170 000
